Brooke Veale was born and raised in Plano, Texas, where she graduated from Plano Senior High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Abilene Christian University (http://www.acu.edu) with a major in psychology. In 2000, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (http://www.utsouthwestern.edu). She then earned her Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) with a specialization in family medicine from The University of Nebraska. Brooke is a fellow member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (http://www.aapa.org) and the Texas Academy of Physician Assistants (http://www.tapa.org).
After graduating from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, Brooke practiced medicine for three years at a rural health clinic in Center, Texas. Although she worked with a general surgeon, Brooke treated patients of all ages in a family practice setting and had a busy nursing home practice. She was active in the local medical society.
From 2003 to 2005, Brooke joined the physician assistant faculty at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (http://www.utsouthwestern.edu). As an assistant professor, Brooke was the course director for the psychiatry course and led several blocks of clinical medicine, including otolaryngology, endocrinology, cardiology, orthopedics, and pediatrics. She enjoyed working with the students and often led small group learning activities, including integration skills and heart sounds labs. As clinical supervisor for the community health and rural family medicine rotations, Brooke worked with many healthcare providers in the Dallas area and across rural Texas. During this time, she was a member of The Academy of Physician Assistant Programs (http://www.aapa.org/).
In 2006, Brooke began volunteering at a free clinic in McKinney whose mission is to provide healthcare to individuals who do not have insurance and are unable to afford healthcare. She served on the Board of Directors from 2006-2007. She continues to work there a couple days a week. Also during this time, Brooke was listed among the Cambridge Who’s Who of Empowering Executives, Professionals, and Entrepreneurs (2006-2007).
Brooke is also involved in other activities. She is an active member of The Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas (http://www.prestoncrest.org). In 2004, she went to Cambodia on a medical mission trip where the team treated over 1,200 patients in five days. Also, she has authored the psychiatric emergency chapter and a section on malaria for a book, Essential Emergency Medicine for the Healthcare Practitioner. She loves quilting and especially enjoys making “chemo quilts” for people fighting cancer. Her work is displayed at http://www.sosewcute.com.
Brooke was married in October 2004 and now lives with her husband in Frisco. Residing with them is their cat, Landry, and dog, Polo. Her favorite hobby is spending time with her husband and step-daughter.
